Sperm Motility
When you enter the realms of pregnancy and trying to get pregnant you need to learn a whole new language. New words like Fertility, Infertility, Sperm Count, Sperm Morphology and Sperm Motility gradually become normal.
So do you know what sperm motility is and why is it so important? Sperm motility or sperm mobility – the terms mean the same thing, refers to the sperm’s ability to move and it is very important as the sperm doesn’t just sit there, it has to travel up the cervix in order to fertilise the egg. You can improve sperm motility – read how in this guide by Shola Oslo.
There are two important things when measuring the sperm motility – how well do the sperm move – their forward progression and also how many of the sperm are moving – the total motile count. Motility is very important, a man may have a low sperm count but if the sperm that are present have good sperm motility he is still able to fertilise the egg.
Before they leave the body, the energy required by the sperm is provided by burning fat. After they have left the body, the energy that is needed by the sperm on the journey to the egg is provided by fructose present in the seminal fluid. Mitochondria, in the mid section of the sperm, burn sugar and fat and thats what gives the sperm the energy to make their way up the cervix. There are two proteins, L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine which facilitate the production of this energy by the mitochondria and these are present in supplements specifically formulated for male fertility support.
Vitamin C and zinc in particular are also said to play an important part in sperm mobility. Low levels of zinc in the seminal fluid are directly related to low sperm count, poor sperm mobility and low volume of seminal fluid produced.
A supplement specifically targeted for male reproductive health is therefore one of the easiest ways of improving the health, and number of sperm generated.
