Male Infertility Treatment

If you suspect you are the reason that you and your partner are not getting pregnant you should read Male Fertility Success – it is an extensive guide on how to improve your fertility naturally, which vitamins to take, which foods to eat and those to avoid.

Treatment for male infertility:
If you are unable to correct your male infertility by lifestyle changes there are various specific treatments available for male factor infertility and they will be determined by your physician. The treatment will depend on your age and general health. Your medical history and any extent of disease. Your tolerance for specific medications, procedures, or therapies that may be involved. The outcomes expected from the treatment and any preference you have on the type of treatment involved.

Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) available:
Artificial insemination. Artificial Insemination involves the placing of  large numbers of healthy sperm either directly into the fallopian tubes, at the entrance of the cervix or into the woman’s uterus bypassing the cervix.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) or gamete intra-fallopian transfer (GIFT) IVF and GIFT may be used for the treatment of male infertility. This process involves hormonally manipulating the ovulation process, removing eggs from the woman’s ovaries and fertilising  them with sperm in a fluid medium. The fertilised egg or zygote is then transferred to the patient’s uterus with the hope of establishing a successful pregnancy.

Microsurgical Fertilization This treatment is used to facilitate sperm penetration by the injection of a single sperm into the egg. Fertilization then takes place under the microscope.

Drug Therapy: A  small percentage of infertile men have hormonal imbalances caused by a dysfunction in the mechanism of interaction between the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland, and the testes. This directly affect the development of sperm (spermatogenesis) but it can be treated with hormone therapy. The drug therapy may include gonadotrophin therapy, antibiotics, or whatever medication is deemed appropriate.

Surgical therapy. In some cases surgical therapy can overcome physical barriers that impede sperm production, maturation and/or ejaculation. Surgical procedures to remove varicose veins in the scrotum known as varicocele can also improve the quality of sperm.
